The Ancient Egyptians believed that the tree was a symbol of both life and death - the broad branches reaching up into the heavens, the strong truck standing tall in today's world, and the deep roots burrowing into the underworld. In Ancient Urartu, the tree was a religious symbol that has been found on fortresses and in warrior's armor. The branches were drawn in equal quantity on each side of the trunk, depicting the importance of balance. The Druids, when clearing land for settlement, would leave a single tree in the middle of the new town to symbolize warmth, food, and protection. This was what they called the Tree of Life.
