Holy Basil Tincture // Cattail Apothecary
Regular price $ 14.00 Save $ -14.00Ocimum tenuiflorum / Ocimum sanctum
This single herb tincture is prepared using leaves from the Krishna variety of Holy Basil, also known as Tulsi. Holy Basil is a member of the mint family and has been used for over 3,000 years.
As an adaptogen, Holy Basil helps combat stress and ease the "fight or flight" reactions our body has to stress factors. These reactions used to save our lives when "stress" was caused by predators, but are not as useful when our modern day "predators" come at us in the guise of an overloaded work schedule or an unpaid bill. Holy Basil assists the body in taming the mental, physical and emotional ramifications of this stress.
A nervine, it is initially stimulating, but then brings a calm and reassuring sense of solidity and groundedness that helps quiet the mind, collect distracted thoughts into focus, and give one a sense of resilience for the long haul. It can move blocked energy to dispel sluggishness as well as move and direct restless energy to ease hyperactivity and inability to concentrate.
By moving stuck energy in the energetic nervous system, holy basil ‘lifts’ the depression, uplifting the heart and allowing it to open to feel emotion and connection with others. Also traditionally used to relieve "mental fog", sharpen the mind, and boost memory.
Daily use is believed to help maintain balance of the body's chakras. Actions: adaptogen, antibacterial, alterative, antifungal, antioxidant, antispasmodic, antidepressant, emmenagogue, expectorant, galactogogue, immunomodulant, nervine, radioprotective, tonic, stimulant, anxiolytic.
Energetically cooling and drying.

Spilanthes also stimulates the salivary glands causing the mouth to water noticeably. This keeps the throat lubricated to cut down on coughing that can further irritate an already sore throat. Added to the mix is horehound, which can help break up phlegm, echinacea, for its antibacterial and antiviral properties and peppermint, for it cooling effect and delicious flavor.
