Although, it has become a universal symbol of protection since its popularization, the concept, tradition, and history of the Evil Eye, referred to as μάτι (mati) in Greek is especially prominent in West Asia and the Mediterranean. Some believe that the Evil Eye first appeared on drinking chalices in the 6th century B.C. in Ancient Greece.
