Card ten in the Major Arcana is The Wheel of Fortune. As we move along on the Fool's Journey, we continue to meet the major players and archetypes that create our human experience. We just bid adieu to The Hermit, and now we are coming face to face with the Wheel of Fortune. When we meet the Wheel, we are reminded that all things come to an end and all parts of life are cyclical. While not the card of death, the Wheel is here to remind you that all things must change, and nothing is permanent.

As we well know, we cannot have an ending without a beginning, and so here we are presented with a new opportunity and new possibility. When you reflect on the path of our Fool and those he has met along the way, it really has been a full experience. We are not yet at the end, as we have 11 more Major Arcana to go; however, within any process, there are multiple cycles.

In the beginning, we set out with the Fool, full of energy and naivete. He took the leap and chased an idea. Along the way, he’s been ambitious, motivated, and secure with the energy of The Chariot. He met the High Priestess, who reminded him to lean into his intuition and spirituality while on his path. The Hierophant nudged him toward his teachers. He was reminded of the power of collaboration and partnership in The Lovers and of his innate willpower in Strength. He walked with the Emperor for a bit and discussed the importance of structure and boundaries in any endeavor. And finally, he sat in quiet contemplation with The Hermit, who asked him to look inward for the answers he sought and reminded him of his inner magick. A full cycle of learning, exploration, and self-reflection. This is where we meet The Wheel of Fortune, and she gives us a hug, a nod of understanding, and opens the door to the next stage of learning. This card can also speak to karmic lessons and to the old adage “what goes around, comes around.”

Keep this in mind when you see her on your table and do a quick check on how you are treating those around you and the energy you are putting out into the world. Make adjustments where necessary. Reversed, The Wheel can speak to a time when there is trouble brewing on your path, and some complications may be headed your way. When you see her appear on your table in this position, take stock of the decisions you are making and be on alert for any signs of potential struggle. As with the karmic lessons, make adjustments where necessary.
